In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no services.  The Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, www.ruggierofuneralhome.com, Pen Argyl is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials:

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to Mary Catherine Bryant, C/O the Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl, PA 18072, to be used to establish a scholarship fund in memory of John at Pen Argyl High School.

G. John “Tanker” Bryant, 76, of Plainfield Township, passed away, Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Easton Hospital.  He was the husband of Mary Catherine (Donegan) Bryant, they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary, March 18, 2017.

Born in Upper Darby, PA, April 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Gordon John and Matilda F. “Tillie” (Fetters) Bryant.

In 2001, John retired as a Highway Foreman for Penn Dot. Prior to that he was employed as an Internal Auditor for the former LANCO and in accounts payable for ACME Markets.

He was a graduate of Haverford Senior High School and attended Villanova University, Buffalo University and Northampton Community College.

John was an avid racing fan.  He served as Vice President for Nazareth Racecam since 1973, he was a member of the Eastern Motorsports Press Association and American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association, the Old Timers Club Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and he road with Morgan Freeman in an Indy Pace Car and several other famous race car drivers.

For more than 50 years he was a member of Volunteer Fire Companies, serving with Plainfield Township Volunteer Fire Co. where he served as financial secretary and Upper Darby Fire Co.  He also served as an EMT for Plainfield Township Ambulance.

He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America and he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gordon John Bryant, III, and his wife Rosane of Colonia, NJ, a step daughter Patti Strouse of Nazareth, his grandchildren, Marc, Carl, Priscilla, and Samantha, his great grandchildren, Aydan, Natalie, Wyatt, Connor, Fiona, Sofia and Annabelle, a brother, Geoffrey Bryant and his wife Debbie of Indiana, two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Monaghan of West Chester and Ruth Anne Bryant and her partner Mary Hankins of West Chester and many nieces and nephews.
